Hapur is a city in the Indian country located in the State of Uttar Pradesh. Hapur city is the headquarter of Hapur district, which is part of the Meerut division in Uttar Pradesh. Hapur city remained a part of Ghaziabad district for over several decades after gaining independence. However, the administrative status of Hapur city changed on 28 September 2011, when Chief Minister Mayawati created a new district called Panchsheel Nagar by separating it from Ghaziabad. In July 2012, Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav decided to Revise the name of the district from Panchsheel Nagar to Hapur district. This was the first time Hapur city had an Administrative Identity since Independence.

One of the biggest steps taken in the improvement of infrastructure in Hapur came in 2017 when the expansion of National Highway 24 (Delhi–Hapur section) was approved in three parts. The work expanded the busy road link from Delhi to Lucknow through Hapur. In addition to National Highway 24, National Highway 334 also runs through Hapur city connecting Meerut and Roorkee.

A notable Industrial Accident happened on 4 June 2022, when an Explosion at Ruhi Industries chemical factory located in Dhaluana area of Hapur district killed 13 people, with around 20 injured. The Government ordered an investigation into the accident, and the owners of the factory were arrested. This incident highlighted safety issues in local industries.

Another major development occurred in May 2023. The lost Neem river of the Hapur district was revived after more than forty years. The river had disappeared as a result of encroachment and construction along its banks. After two years of clearing debris and illegal encroachments, the river flowed freely once again.
