Mathura city was known as the birthplace of Lord Krishna. After independence of india, the government of Uttar Pradesh started to improve Mathura city. After some years in the 1950s and 1960s, more and more pilgrims came to Mathura city.
By 1974, a major step was taken. The Archaeological Survey of India decided to protect important historical places in Mathura city.
