In 1956, during the reconfiguration of states across India, Bahraich was established as a district of Uttar Pradesh. The Bahraich governmental offices made updates in regard to land records, district maps, and administration, through Uttar Pradesh Revenue Department, and District Collectorate.

In 2016, Indian Railways approved the gauge conversion of the Gonda–Bahraich and Bahraich–Nanpara rail lines. By November, 2018, passenger trains began to operate again on the gauge converted lines.
