And especially for the purpose of OTP verification. Whereas a password is mainly used to set the account, or you can also call the password a key. What is the difference between Password and OTP.

What is the difference between Password and OTP

Password and OTP are both very sensitive content. Because of their leaking, there may be a problem with your account being unified. Because both Password and OTP are used for login and verification purpose. So that the verification of any mobile number, email account or bank account etc. is done. OTP and password are also used for verification or for various other types of processes.

Password is a code that you can set for your account as per your wish. Then how small, how big or what character or symbol you want to include in it is up to you. But OTP is a code that is sent to you by a company on your mobile number for the purpose of verification or login.

You can use a password to enter your account at any time. But an OTP can be used only once. And whether or not that OTP is used or not, that OTP expires within the time set by that company. Most of the companies and DPs keep the expiry time of 10 to 15 minutes.

Password length can be 10, 12, 15 or more characters. But the OTP code consists of only 4 to 6 or maximum 8 digits. Which mainly consists of numerical.

The process of OTP works on the random code generation principle of a computer program. Whereas OTP is generated manually, as OTP is always auto generated, which is generated by computer program. While most passwords are created manually, some companies or some computer programs autogenerate passwords as well.

This is one of the biggest differences between OTP and Password. That OTP instead of password can best avoid any kind of errors or hacking problems in verification. Because when we create our account on any website, then a password of our account and our mobile number or email is fixed. And it remains fixed until we change it. But OTP is completely different from this. And each time the OTP is different. Whenever you want to verify your account, you will receive a new OTP. And its validity will be only for 10 to 15 minutes.

If you manage accounts on more than one website, application etc. So you might have forgotten the password. Or there may be confusion, which password did you use on which website. But if the same OTP is the best verification, then there is no scope for any kind of confusion. Because different OTP is received for all types of verification.

The biggest disadvantage of OTP is that if you do not have your mobile number, you may face problems in getting the OTP number. Whereas you can only remember the password. And you can use it anytime anywhere. For that you do not have to have mobile number with you while login.

OTP is not required to be remembered, whereas the password needs to be remembered and kept in a note somewhere. Because same password works always, whereas an OTP works only once.
